I have just come back home from an amazing place nestled in the hills of Tuscany, Italy, called Peralta. What a wonderful get away - tranquil beauty, peace and quiet. I traveled solo for three weeks in March and didn't really know how everything would go. From the very first day it was SO much more than I expected. The beauty, the service, the people. Kate, the care taker of the Villa, went out of her way to make sure I was well taken care of and really enjoyed her place in the villa. Thank you so much Kate for everything! Peralta is a villa (almost Castle) overlooking the hills and valleys and small local town Camaiore (their Pasticceria Rossano's pastries are the best!) There's a big olive garden and lots of trees, like orange, lemon and bay. Lots of wild and planted flowers around the property. Many paths to take to enjoy the nature around. A lot of thought and work was put into this real old world villa to make it beautifully unique. The apartment I stayed at had a large kitchen and a huge fireplace. It was very clean and cozy, I felt I was living a fairytale, it was so magical and comfy. :) A few very friendly cats Pino and Bisco were looking for company and became my roommates after a while. :) People in the area are so nice and helpful also. Though I spoke very little Italian I felt comfortable to talk to anyone I had encountered: local grocery store owners (their fresh bread, cheese and Prosciutto are amazing!), neighbors, people at the local gas station. Christopher, the gardener of Peralta, was always greeting me with a smile and eager to help with whatever I needed, just ask. Thank you Christopher! Peralta is very close to so many other beautiful places. I had lots of day trips to places like Lucca, Piza, Cinque Terra, Siena and Florence. Out of all the places I visited during my trip, I always couldn't wait to come back "home", in my quiet place, in touch with nature. I'm so blessed I found Peralta, especially to have a chance to get to know its people. It was hard to leave. I know I'll be back. Very soon. And I'm sure many of my friends will be visiting as well.

My great escape

No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of...
